Sunday School

Regional Coordinator
Tammy Washburn

Sunday School is one of the vital teaching arms of the Church operating in all of our local congregations. Our ministry is dedicated to teaching to win souls by helping people see their sinful nature and leading them to accept Christ’s forgiveness. We also teach to develop souls by leading people into a fuller and richer spiritual life.

Growing up in my family, and still today, we have energetic, boisterous discussions about scripture. From a distance, a newcomer, may think we are arguing because of the volume of our voices, but soon they will realize that we are not arguing, but AGREEING  with  ENTHUSIASM.  We often get  excited when we find and discuss points of scripture  that strengthens Bible doctrine, brings clarity to

The Church of God, and reveals the beauty of God’s eternal plan. When we gather as a family, we often pull out, admire and polish our dearest family treasures…Christ and His Church. The only doctrines we are ever interested in pulling down are the false doctrines of the religious world, often warning each other if we see those doctrines trying to “innocently” creep their way into the fold.

This is why Sunday School is so important!! Sunday School is where we come together as the Body of Christ to learn of, discuss and agree upon good Bible doctrine, bringing clarity to The Church of God vision and reveal the beauty of God’s eternal plan. As the family of God, we gather to pull deep treasures out of scripture, to admire and polish them to a bright shine; holding up the good book and proclaiming that we take this Bible as the Word of God, rightly dividing the word of Truth. In turn, Sunday School is also the place to pull down false doctrines and to make sure that worldliness and error do not find ways to “innocently” creep into our private lives or The Church of God; making sure that the treasures we choose to polish and shine are not temporal and unedifying. Mat 6:19-21  Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:  But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

Teachers, how about starting a Hide N' Seek Club and challenge your students to memorize scripture?

HIDE: Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. Psalm 119:11
SEEK: Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: Isaiah 55:6

“God’s Word must be so strongly fixed in our minds that it becomes the dominant influence in our thoughts, our attitudes, and our actions. One of the most effective ways of influencing our minds is through memorizing Scripture. David said: Thy word have I hid  in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. (Psalm 119:11 KJV) To memorize Scripture effectively, we must have a plan. The plan

should include a selection of well-chosen verses, a practical system for learning those verses and a systematic means of reviewing them to keep them fresh in memory.”  (The Pursuit of Holiness – Jerry Bridges p.86)
